Martina stava diventando sempre più impaziente mentre i minuti sembravano trascinarsi. “Quanto tempo ci vorrà?” piagnucolò. “Mi sto davvero stancando di aspettare. Voglio solo andare a casa!”
Proprio in quel momento, sua sorella maggiore, Carlotta, irruppe attraverso le doppie porte dell’edificio scolastico e salì sul sedile posteriore dell’auto. “Ciao mamma! Indovina un po’?” esclamò Carlotta eccitata. “La prossima settimana andremo in gita allo zoo!”
Durante l’intero viaggio verso casa, Carlotta aveva continuato a chiacchierare della sua imminente gita scolastica. Era tanto entusiasta di vedere gli elefanti quanto lo era di vedere gli squali nella vasca dell’acquario e i pappagalli colorati nella mostra tropicale.
Martina, tuttavia, non era minimamente interessata. “Sono stanca di viaggiare in questa vecchia macchina. Quanto manca prima che arriviamo a casa?” piagnucolò di nuovo.
“Martina, guarda fuori dal finestrino,” disse piano sua madre. “Penso che riconoscerai la nostra casa.”
Quando l’auto fu parcheggiata al sicuro nel garage, Martina si slacciò la cintura di sicurezza e saltò fuori dall’auto. “Era ora!” gridò a nessuno in particolare. “Finalmente sono a casa e non devo più aspettare!”
Martina corse in soggiorno e si accasciò sul divano. Prese il telecomando e iniziò a sfogliare i canali. Non trovando nulla che volesse guardare in TV, iniziò a piagnucolare ancora una volta. “È semplicemente ingiusto! Il mio programma preferito non è ancora andato in onda e devo ANCORA aspettare! Devo sempre aspettare tutto! Odio aspettare!”
Carlotta ne aveva abbastanza dei piagnucolii e delle lamentele di Martina. Entrò nel soggiorno e si sedette sul divano accanto alla sua sorellina. “Martina,” iniziò. “Non sei l’unica persona che deve aspettare. Tutti devono aspettare le cose. Devo aspettare una settimana intera per andare allo zoo, e non è facile. Sono così eccitata. Penso di non poter più attendere e voglio andare ORA, ma so che verrà il momento e sarà molto divertente quando l’attesa sarà finalmente finita. Sarà molto meglio se impari ad avere pazienza.”
“Che cosa significa QUESTO?” chiese Martina.
“PAZIENZA significa aspettare senza piagnucolare o lamentarsi. Prova a pensare a qualcosa di buono mentre aspetti o prova a cantare una canzone. Semplificherà i tempi di attesa e sarai più felice,” le spiegò Carlotta.
Martina non era convinta che il suggerimento di Carlotta avrebbe funzionato, ma accettò di provarlo la prossima volta che avrebbe dovuto aspettare qualcosa.
Mentre Gesù si recava nella città di Gerusalemme per celebrare una festa con la sua famiglia e i suoi amici, decise di visitare la piscina. Questa non era una piscina normale come te e io sappiamo. Era una piscina molto speciale e le persone le avevano dato un nome. Questa piscina speciale si chiamava BETHESDA.
La piscina di Bethesda era il luogo in cui le persone della comunità potevano venire a prendere l’acqua di cui avevano bisogno. Era un posto molto frequentato. Era stato costruito con cinque portici attorno, quindi c’era molto spazio per le persone per chiacchierare e aggiornarsi sulle notizie locali mentre riempivano le loro brocche d’acqua. Era anche un luogo dove si riunivano molti malati, sperando che qualcuno li compatisse e desse loro da mangiare, o desse loro dei soldi per farsi visitare da un medico. Ma il motivo più importante per cui i malati venivano alla piscina era perché in certi momenti un ANGELO veniva alla piscina e agitava l’acqua. La primissima persona che entrava nella piscina quando l’acqua veniva agitata dall’angelo sarebbe guarita da qualunque malattia avesse e se ne sarebbe andata via completamente in salute.
Le persone malate venivano da chilometri di distanza, sperando di vedere l’angelo e sperando di essere la prima persona ad entrare nella piscina quando l’angelo avrebbe toccato l’acqua. Alcune persone avevano portato le loro stuoie e le coperte per rimanere vicino alla piscina tutto il giorno e ci dormivano anche la notte. Non volevano andarsene e rischiare la possibilità di essere via quando sarebbe arrivato l’angelo.
Mentre Gesù era alla piscina, un uomo attirò la sua attenzione. L’uomo giaceva su un lettuccio sporco e sfilacciato, ed era ovvio che era lì da molto tempo. Gesù si avvicinò per parlare con lui.
“Vuoi stare bene?” chiese Gesù all’uomo.
“Beh sì. Sì,” rispose l’uomo. “Sono malato da 38 anni e, ovviamente, voglio stare bene. Io ho…
aspettato…
e aspettato…
e aspettato…
Il problema è che non ho nessuno che mi aiuti a entrare in acqua quando arriva l’angelo. Mi sforzo così tanto di entrare in acqua, ma qualcuno entra sempre prima di me in piscina. È così scoraggiante! Poi mi sdraio sul mio vecchio lettuccio e continuo ad aspettare…e continuo a sperare che la prossima volta forse qualcuno sarà così gentile da aiutarmi.”
Gesù si rattristò perché l’uomo era malato e aveva aspettato così a lungo, e voleva aiutarlo. Gesù lo guardò con compassione e disse dolcemente, “Alzati. Arrotola il lettuccio e cammina!”
L’uomo fece esattamente ciò che Gesù gli aveva detto di fare. Miracolosamente, si rialzò sui piedi che non poteva usare da 38 anni! Arrotolò il lettuccio e cominciò a camminare. Non riusciva quasi a crederci! Era stato guarito all’istante!
Immediatamente, ci fu un brusio di eccitazione che rimbombò tra la folla intorno alla piscina.
“Hai visto?” chiese con meraviglia una persona.
“Sì!” esclamò un altro. “Quell’uomo è stato guarito e l’angelo non era nemmeno qui!”
Un’altra persona gridò, “Conosco quell’uomo! È stato qui più a lungo di quanto possa ricordare. Abbiamo visto un vero miracolo!”
C’erano alcune persone, però, che non erano molto contente del miracolo. L’uomo era stato guarito nel GIORNO DI SABATO. Il giorno del riposo era un giorno speciale per il riposo e in quel giorno non si doveva svolgere alcun lavoro. I capi del tempio videro l’uomo e lo affrontarono. “Perché porti il tuo lettuccio?” hanno chiesto. “Non sai che è lavoro e non dovresti lavorare di sabato?”
L’uomo non riusciva a credere che fossero arrabbiati con lui. Dopotutto, gli era appena successa una cosa grandiosa e meravigliosa e si aspettava che tutti fossero felici quanto lui. Ha cercato di spiegare, “Sono stato malato per 38 anni e sono appena stato guarito. L’uomo che mi ha guarito mi ha detto di prendere il mio letto e camminare, e così ho fatto.”
“E chi è l’uomo che ti ha guarito?” chiesero accigliati i capi del tempio.
“Non so chi sia e non so dove sia andato,” rispose l’uomo, mentre si dirigeva verso il tempio per adorare Dio.
Quando entrò nel tempio, fu sorpreso di vedere Gesù. Egli lo vide e si prese un momento per parlare con lui dicendo, “Così come ora stai bene, assicurati di non peccare.”
L’uomo annuì e se ne andò, poi disse ai capi del tempio che sapeva chi era stato a guarirlo e indicò Gesù. Dopo aver atteso così a lungo che l’angelo venisse ad agitare l’acqua nella piscina, Gesù lo aveva guarito semplicemente parlandogli!
RIFLETTI!
1. Qual era il nome della piscina?
2. Perché il malato stava aspettando vicino alla piscina?
3. Da quanto tempo il malato stava aspettando?
4. Chi guarì il malato?
5. Di quale Frutto dello Spirito abbiamo appreso in questa storia?
RICORDA:
È difficile pazientare, ma alla fine Dio ti ricompenserà.
UN VERSETTO DA IMPARARE
“Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace,
pazienza, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mansuetudine,
autocontrollo; contro queste cose non c'è legge”
(Galati 5:22-23).
UNA ALTERNATIVA AL VERSETTO DA IMPARARE
“Ho pazientemente aspettato il SIGNORE, ed egli si
è chinato su di me e ha ascoltato il mio grido” (Salmo 40:1).
APPLICAZIONE PRATICA
Riesci a pensare a un momento in cui hai dovuto aspettare pazientemente qualcosa o qualcuno? Era Natale, il tuo compleanno, una vacanza o la nascita di un fratellino o di una sorellina? O forse stavi aspettando che un braccio o una gamba rotta guarisse, oppure di stare meglio dopo essere stato malato? Forse stavi aspettando di vedere la tua pagella di scuola? Cosa hai fatto per tenerti occupato mentre aspettavi? Hai pensato di chiedere a Dio di aiutarti a essere paziente? Hai riposto la tua fiducia in Lui mentre stavi aspettando?
I tuoi genitori o insegnanti ti hanno mai detto che stavi mettendo alla prova la loro pazienza? Cosa glielo ha fatto dire? Pensi che a volte metti alla prova anche la pazienza di Dio? Pensi che sia paziente con te? Come mai?
[Dopo la discussione:] Se confidi in Dio mentre aspetti qualcosa o qualcuno, è molto più facile avere pazienza. È importante scegliere di fidarsi di Dio e di essere paziente mentre aspetti. Dio ti dice in Ebrei 10:36 che vuole che tu sia paziente nel fare la sua volontà in modo che tu possa ricevere le sue promesse. Vuole anche che tu sia paziente con le altre persone, proprio come Lui lo è con te.
PREGHIAMO

cose buone che hai per me.
