Dopo che Eunice e Pietro avevano svolto fedelmente i loro compiti durante tutto l'anno, arrivò la tanto attesa vacanza. All'inizio dell'anno, i loro genitori avevano promesso loro una sorpresa se avessero fatto del loro meglio e lavorato sodo ogni giorno. “Quale sarebbe la sorpresa?” si chiedevano, e i loro genitori avrebbero ancora ricordato la loro promessa? Eunice e Pietro sicuramente non se ne erano dimenticati.
Dopo cena, il loro papà annunciò improvvisamente, “Eunice, Pietro, poiché siete stati così fedeli nel fare i compiti, nell'aiutare vostra madre in casa e anche nell'aiutarmi a lavare la macchina, manterremo fedelmente la nostra promessa. La prossima settimana voleremo!”
“Cosa-a-a-a?” Eunice chiese eccitata, e Pietro aggiunse molto felice, “Come? Con Cosa? Dove?”
“Andremo a trovare il nonno e la nonna, e per andarci ovviamente dovremo volare su un aereo!” rispose la loro mamma sorridendo.
“Evviva! Evviva! Evviva!” Eunice e Pietro esclamarono gioiosamente. “Li abbiamo visitati tanto tempo fa e ci mancano moltissimo. Come faremo a essere pazienti per un'intera settimana?”
La settimana trascorse più velocemente del previsto e, prima che se ne rendessero conto, loro e i loro bagagli avevano superato tutti i posti di sicurezza dell'aeroporto e si erano trovati sull'aereo. Una bellissima hostess si assicurò che le loro cinture di sicurezza fossero abbastanza strette. Erano pronti per il decollo.
Una strana eccitazione nervosa si impossessò di loro mentre l'aereo cominciava ad accelerare sempre più velocemente. Per prime si sollevarono le ruote anteriori e poi quelle posteriori. Erano nell'aria! L'aereo sorvolava la città, virando e, dal finestrino, si vedevano macchine e case sempre più piccole. “Guarda, Eunice, le macchine sembrano formiche!” disse Pietro.
Quando l'aereo raggiunse l'altezza desiderata, Eunice e Pietro si sedettero a turno alla finestra, guardando la terra molto al di sotto di loro. Potevano vedere fiumi, dighe e montagne, ma non animali o esseri umani. Erano troppo piccoli da così in alto.
All'improvviso, la scena fuori dalla finestra divenne bianca mentre volavano attraverso un grande banco di nuvole. Pietro si preoccupò quando poterono vedere solo nuvole bianche per molto tempo, “Papà! Non possiamo vedere il suolo. Non sappiamo se stiamo salendo o scendendo. Temo che potremmo schiantarci al suolo, o su un altro aereo, o su una montagna!”
“Non preoccuparti, figlio mio,” disse suo padre. “Il pilota in cabina ha strumenti per vedere a che altezza stiamo volando e se l'aereo sta volando livellato o sta virando, oltre a quanto velocemente stiamo volando, in quale direzione stiamo volando e se stiamo salendo, scendendo o volando obliquamente. Poi hanno anche uno strumento che li avverte quando altri velivoli si stanno avvicinando.”
“Vedete, quando il pilota non riesce a vedere nulla all'esterno, come quando voliamo attraverso una nuvola o voliamo di notte, non può fare affidamento sulle proprie sensazioni per volare. Quindi deve obbedire fedelmente ai suoi strumenti, che gli danno la direzione e la guida di cui ha bisogno per continuare a volare in sicurezza.”
“Ma, papà,” chiese anche Eunice, preoccupata, “e se gli strumenti si rompono?”
“Bambina mia,” rispose il papà, “gli strumenti vengono accuratamente testati prima di ogni volo per assicurarsi che tutto funzioni correttamente. Ma se qualcosa va storto, possono sempre contattare la torre di controllo a terra che li aiuterà a far atterrare l'aereo in sicurezza.”
Eunice e Pietro furono molto sollevati e contenti che il pilota avesse gli strumenti per farli volare in sicurezza attraverso le nuvole, e confidarono che lui avrebbe obbedito loro fedelmente. Atterrarono senza sforzo sull'asfalto. Dopo aver ritirato i bagagli, il nonno e la nonna li accolsero a braccia aperte e si godettero una meravigliosa vacanza in fattoria.
Dopo che Gesù ascese al cielo e scomparve tra le nuvole, i discepoli attesero fedelmente in Gerusalemme finché non furono potentemente ripieni di Spirito Santo.
Si ricordarono che Gesù aveva detto loro che sarebbero stati suoi testimoni a Gerusalemme, in tutta la Giudea, in Samaria e fino ai confini della terra. Eppure pensavano di dover proclamare la buona novella su Gesù solo agli ebrei.
Un pomeriggio, mentre Pietro si trovava a Giaffa da Simone il conciatore, salì sul tetto della casa a pregare. Era quasi ora di pranzo e il suo stomaco iniziò a brontolare quando sentì il profumo delizioso del cibo che la moglie di Simone stava preparando.
All'improvviso il suo spirito andò in estasi. Vide aprirsi davanti a sé le nuvole e scendere dal cielo un grande lenzuolo abbassato per i quattro angoli. Sul lenzuolo c'erano tutti i tipi di animali e uccelli. C'erano scimmie e topi, lucertole e serpenti, aquile e struzzi e molti altri. Poi venne una voce dal cielo che disse, “Alzati, Pietro! Uccidi e mangia!”
Pietro rabbrividì, “Mai, Signore! Non ho mai mangiato una carne simile! Tutto ciò è impuro!”
La voce rispose, “Non considerare impuro ciò che Dio considera puro.”
Dato che accadde TRE volte prima che il lenzuolo scomparisse di nuovo nei cieli, Pietro comprese che significava qualcosa di importante, ma non sapeva cosa. Mentre si stava ancora chiedendo cosa potesse significare la visione, lo Spirito Santo gli disse, “Ci sono TRE uomini che ti stanno cercando. Alzati, scendi e va con loro senza dubbio, perché li ho mandati io.”
Quando Pietro scese le scale, trovò tre uomini, proprio come lo Spirito Santo gli aveva detto. Davanti alla porta c'erano un soldato e due servitori che gli dissero, “Il nostro padrone Cornelio è capitano della Legione Italica. È come noi, non un ebreo, ma un uomo giusto e timorato di Dio. Ieri, mentre digiunava e pregava, ha visto un angelo. Questo gli ha detto che Dio aveva notato con quanta fedeltà pregava ogni giorno e come aiutava i poveri. Comandò a Cornelio di mandarci a venire a prenderti qui a Ioppe, in casa di Simone il conciatore, perché potessimo ascoltare ciò che Dio vuole dirci per mezzo tuo.”
Di solito Ebrei e Gentili non si facevano visita, perché la legge ebraica lo proibiva. Improvvisamente, Pietro capì cosa significasse la sua visione. Dio voleva fargli sapere che non poteva chiamare nessun uomo empio o impuro solo perché non era Ebreo. Pertanto, Pietro invitò i tre uomini a entrare e lì trascorsero la notte. Il giorno dopo partirono tutti per Cesarea dove abitava Cornelio.
Quando Pietro arrivò in quel luogo, rimase piuttosto sbalordito. L'intera casa di Cornelio era piena di gente eccitata che lo aspettava. C'era tutta la sua famiglia e tutti i suoi amici speciali, grandi e piccoli.
Cornelio raccontò tutto a Pietro. Gli disse dell'angelo in abiti smaglianti che gli aveva ordinato di andare a prendere Pietro perché comunicasse loro il messaggio di Dio.
Tutti ascoltarono attentamente quando Pietro si schiarì la gola e cominciò a parlare. “Vedo davvero che a Dio non importa a quale tipo di nazione o razza appartieni, ma se lo temi e sei giusto, allora si rallegrerà per te e ti accetterà.”
Cornelio e tutti in casa sua furono molto contenti di sentirlo e non vedevano l'ora di sentire cos'altro Pietro avesse da dire.
Pietro continuò, “So che tutti avete sentito parlare di Gesù che ha portato la pace tra Dio e gli ebrei. Questo Gesù viaggiò attraverso Israele e fece miracoli ovunque andasse. Guarì le persone dalle loro malattie e scacciò i demoni perché Dio era con lui. Tuttavia, i Giudei lo uccisero appendendolo a una croce, ma Dio lo risuscitò dai morti il terzo giorno. Poi è apparso a noi, suoi discepoli e ha mangiato e bevuto con noi. Ci ha incaricato di proclamare che Egli è il Giudice attraverso il quale Dio giudicherà tutti coloro che sono mai vissuti. Ma solo coloro che credono in Lui riceveranno il perdono dei peccati nel suo Nome, proprio come avevano profetizzato i profeti.”
Mentre Pietro parlava ancora, lo Spirito Santo scese su tutti coloro che ascoltavano la parola. La gente che era venuta con Pietro si meravigliava che il dono dello Spirito Santo fosse effuso anche sui pagani, perché li sentivano parlare in altre lingue e lodare Dio. Lì per lì decisero di battezzarli anche in acqua, come simbolo dell'accettazione di Gesù Cristo come loro Signore e Salvatore.
Cornelio, la sua famiglia e i suoi amici erano felicissimi che Gesù non fosse venuto solo per gli ebrei ma per tutte le persone, proprio come era stato profetizzato nelle Scritture. Questa è la prova che Dio rimane veramente fedele alla sua Parola!

Dio è fedele alla sua Parola e se noi siamo fedeli nell'obbedire alla sua Parola, Egli ci aiuterà e ci guiderà, anche nei momenti difficili e incerti.

7. Perché è bene essere fedeli a Dio?
UN VERSETTO DA IMPARARE
“Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace, pazienza, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mansuetudine, autocontrollo; contro queste cose non c'è legge” (Galati 5:22-23).

“O SIGNORE, la tua benevolenza giunge fino al cielo,
la tua fedeltà fino alle nuvole” (Salmo 36:5).
“Io canterò per sempre la bontà del SIGNORE;
la mia bocca annuncerà la tua fedeltà di
generazione in generazione” (Salmo 89:1).
“Fedele è Dio, dal quale siete stati chiamati alla
comunione del Figlio suo Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore”
(1 Corinzi 1:9).
“Ma il Signore è fedele ed egli vi renderà saldi
e vi guarderà dal maligno” (2 Tessalonicesi 3:3).
“Manteniamo ferma la confessione della nostra speranza,
senza vacillare; perché fedele è colui che ha fatto
le promesse” (Ebrei 10:23).
“Sii fedele fino alla morte e io ti darò
la corona della vita” (Apocalisse 2:10b).
APPLICAZIONE PRATICA
La Bibbia dice che la fedeltà di Dio è per ogni generazione, non solo per quelle nei tempi biblici, ma anche per te. Poiché Dio è fedele alla sua Parola, possiamo riporre la nostra fiducia in Lui con tutto il cuore. Riesci a pensare a casi in cui Dio ti è stato fedele? Forse ti ha aiutato quando è successo qualcosa di brutto o forse ti ha confortato quando eri triste, o ti ha dato pace quando avevi paura. Ringrazialo per questi casi e non tenerlo per te, ma raccontalo agli altri come fece il re Davide quando disse, “Non ho nascosto la tua giustizia nel mio cuore; Ho proclamato la tua fedeltà e la tua salvezza, non ho nascosto la tua benignità e la tua fedeltà alla grande assemblea” (Salmo 40:10).
Sei stato fedele a Dio in qualche modo? Dio dice nella sua Parola che se sei fedele nelle piccole cose, Egli ti ricompenserà con grandi cose. Elenca alcuni modi in cui puoi essere fedele a casa, a scuola o in chiesa, leggendo la Bibbia e pregando.
[Dopo la discussione:] Dio mostra la sua fedeltà ogni volta che perdona i tuoi peccati. Egli dice in 1 Giovanni 1:9 che se confessiamo i nostri peccati, Egli è fedele e giusto da perdonarci i peccati e purificarci da ogni iniquità, compresi i modi in cui siamo stati infedeli. Ti piacerebbe servire un Dio che è fedele e indulgente quando gli confessi i tuoi peccati? Pensa a una volta in cui sei stato infedele, confessalo a Dio e chiedigli perdono e ringrazialo per questo.

dubitato della tua fedeltà. Dacci
potenza attraverso il tuo Santo Spirito per essere fedeli
a Te pregando ogni giorno e leggendo la Bibbia,
che è la nostra carta stradale per il paradiso. Aiutaci ad essere
fedele nei nostri compiti scolastici e nei compiti che i nostri
genitori ci chiedono di fare. Aiutaci a ricordare che Tu
sei sempre fedele. Nel nome di Gesù. Amen.
