           Era una giornata autunnale fresca e ventilata e Alessio non riusciva a pensare a niente che avrebbe preferito fare se non andare a pescare con suo padre. Con la sua cassetta degli attrezzi e la canna da pesca in una mano e il frigorifero per il pranzo nell'altra, fece fatica mentre si dirigeva verso il camion. Suo padre aveva già preparato la barca e lo stava aspettando pazientemente.

           “Sarà una grande giornata, papà. Lo so e basta!” esclamò Alessio eccitato mentre saliva sul camion.

           “Sono eccitato quanto te, Alessio,” rispose suo padre. “Spero solo che non piova mentre siamo al lago.”

Quando finalmente arrivarono al lago, Alessio non perse tempo a saltare giù dal camion. Aiutà suo padre a mettere gli attrezzi da pesca e il frigorifero per il pranzo nella barca. Poi indossò il giubbotto di salvataggio. Dopo che tutto fu a posto, lui e suo padre salirono sulla barca e usarono una pagaia per allontanarsi dalla riva.

           Padre e figlio si divertirono moltissimo insieme mentre cercavano di superarsi a vicenda. “Ho preso più pesci di te!” diceva Alessio.

           “Sì, ma i miei pesci sono più grandi,” rispondeva scherzosamente suo padre.

           Proprio mentre stavano aprendo il frigorifero per pranzare, Alessio sentì una goccia di pioggia. “UH-OH, papà,” sospirò. “Ho appena sentito una goccia. Penso che pioverà prima di quanto il meteorologo….”

           Prima ancora che potesse finire la frase, la pioggia iniziò a cadere a dirotto. “Piove a secchi!” esclamò suo padre. “Dobbiamo arrivare a riva ORA!”

           Il vento si alzò, causando onde più grandi di quelle a cui Alessio era abituato. La piccola barca stava dondolando e perfino alcune delle onde si infransero contro la barca. Alessio cominciò a spaventarsi. “Papà, ho paura. Pensi che andrà TUTTO BENE?” chiese Alessio con voce tremante.

“È piuttosto agitato qui e questa piccola barca è difficile da controllare con queste onde e con il vento forte, ma non preoccuparti di nulla,” lo rassicurò suo padre. “Tieniti forte e segui le mie istruzioni e andrà tutto bene.”

           Ascoltare semplicemente la voce calma di suo padre faceva sentire Alessio molto meglio riguardo alla situazione. Sapere che suo padre aveva il controllo lo aiutava a essere più pacifico e meno timoroso. Alessio ondeggiava come ondeggiava la piccola barca e presto iniziò a godersi il suo piccolo giro. In alcuni istanti fingeva di essere sulle montagne russe e rideva della strana sensazione che gli provocava nella pancia. Sembrava che non ci sarebbe voluto molto tempo prima che suo padre li riportasse sani e salvi a riva a mangiare il pranzo nel camion, aspettando che smettesse di piovere. Alessio era felice di potersi fidare di suo padre per sapere esattamente cosa fare.

           “Si sta facendo tardi….”

           “Dovresti andare a casa e prenderti cura della tua famiglia….”

           “Gesù è stanco e ha bisogno di riposare….”

Gli amici di Gesù, conosciuti anche come i suoi discepoli, si erano sparpagliati tra l'enorme gruppo di persone che si erano radunate durante il giorno per ascoltare Gesù raccontare storie e insegnare sul Regno di Dio. Proprio mentre alcune persone se ne stavano finalmente andando, altre sarebbero arrivate, prendendo posto tra la folla. Sembrava che tutti volessero sentire ciò che Gesù aveva da dire. I discepoli avevano un compito abbastanza difficile, cercare di convincere tutti che era ora di tornare a casa!

           “Ehi, Pietro! Hai visto Gesù?” gridò Giovanni mentre l'ultima persona si stava allontanando.

           “Penso che sia già andato alla barca,” urlò di rimando Pietro.

Infatti, quando i discepoli giunsero alla barchetta, trovarono che Gesù era già lì, ad aspettarli.

           “Amici, per favore, mi portate dall'altra parte del lago?” chiese educatamente Gesù. I discepoli erano desiderosi di compiacere Gesù. Alzarono le vele, levarono l'ancora e ben presto navigarono verso il centro del lago.

Improvvisamente, senza preavviso, il vento cominciò a ululare, sbattendo le grandi vele come se fossero piume. Le onde si alzavano sempre più alte, sbattendo sui lati della barca. Questa, che oscillava pesantemente da un lato all'altro, era irrimediabilmente incontrollabile. Era tutto quello che potevano fare per resistere.

Giacomo si guardò intorno per vedere se c'erano ancora tutti sulla barca, sperando che nessuno fosse caduto in mare. “DOV'È GESÙ?” urlò al di sopra del ruggito del vento.

           Pietro urlò di rimando, “È QUI SUL RETRO DELLA BARCA! PUOI CREDERE CHE STA DORMENDO IN MEZZO A TUTTO QUESTO?”

           I discepoli stavano diventando sempre più spaventati a causa della tempesta. L'acqua stava rapidamente riempiendo la barca e non c'era niente che potessero fare al riguardo. Non c'erano dubbi nelle loro menti che sarebbero morti tutti.

Uno dei discepoli iniziò a scuotere Gesù cercando di svegliarlo, urlando forte per farsi sentire. “GESÙ…GESÙ! ALZATI! COME PUOI DORMIRE IN MEZZO A QUESTA TEMPESTA? NON TI IMPORTA SE MORIAMO TUTTI? PER FAVORE ALZATI E AIUTACI!”

           Gesù calmo e pacifico si alzò dal suo pisolino. Si alzò sulla barca, che veniva sballottata in modo incontrollabile, e parlò al vento…e poi parlò al lago dicendo semplicemente, “Pace, calmati!”

           In quello stesso istante:

Il vento smise di ululare…

                 Le onde smisero di fluttuare…

                 La barca smise di sballottare…

           Tutto era calmo, immobile e pacifico sul lago.

           I discepoli tremavano ancora di paura e si aggrappavano ancora alla barca. Non si erano nemmeno accorti che la tempesta era cessata. Gesù si rivolse loro e disse dolcemente, “Perché avete tanta paura? Come avete potuto trascorrere così tanto tempo con me e tuttavia avere così poca fiducia che mi sarei preso cura di voi?”

I discepoli, accortisi che la tempesta era passata, allentarono appena la presa e si alzarono timidamente. Si guardarono l'un l'altro con stupore. “Riesci a credere a quello che è appena successo?” chiese uno di loro.

           “Che tipo di uomo è questo?” si chiese un altro.

           “Anche il vento e le onde gli obbediscono!” esclamò un terzo.

           “È stato assolutamente incredibile!” concordarono tutti.

           Dopo che tutta la loro meraviglia e stupore si placò un po', si diedero da fare con il duro compito di tirare fuori l'acqua dalla loro barca e riparare le vele in modo da poter continuare il resto del viaggio attraverso il lago dove, a loro insaputa, un altro grande il miracolo stava aspettando di aver luogo.

1. In che modo questa storia mostra che Gesù era umano come noi?
2. In che modo questa storia mostra che Gesù era Dio?
3. Cosa stavano facendo i discepoli durante la tempesta?
4. Cosa stava facendo Gesù durante la tempesta?
5. Cosa fece Gesù per fermare la tempesta?
6. Quale frutto dello Spirito hai conosciuto in questa storia?

RICORDA:

Gesù è la Fonte della Pace. Se preghi e ti fidi di Lui,
Ti aiuterà a sostituire la paura con la pace.

UN VERSETTO DA IMPARARE

“Il frutto dello Spirito invece è amore, gioia, pace,
pazienza, benevolenza, bontà, fedeltà, mansuetudine,
autocontrollo; contro queste cose non c'è legge”
(Galati 5:22-23).

UNA ALTERNATIVA AL VERSETTO DA IMPARARE

“E la pace di Dio, che supera ogni intelligenza,
custodirà i vostri cuori e i vostri pensieri
in Cristo Gesù” (Filippesi 4:7).

APPLICAZIONE PRATICA

Sei mai stato in una tempesta? Era forse un temporale, una grandinata, una bufera di neve, una tempesta di sabbia, un ciclone, un tifone, un uragano o un tornado?

Quanto ti sei spaventato? Che cosa hai fatto? Hai nascosto la testa sotto le coperte o ti sei riparato nell'armadio? Oppure sei corso dai tuoi genitori perché avevi paura e non volevi stare da solo? Sei riuscito a trovare la pace o avevi ancora paura?

Quali altre cose ti fanno paura? Ci sono certe persone che ti spaventano? Ti spaventa stare con qualcuno che è arrabbiato? Come puoi avere pace quando le cose infuriano intorno a te?

[Dopo la discussione:] Gesù, il Principe della pace, è venuto a darci la pace. Sto parlando di una pace che non è di questo mondo, una pace che viene dal cielo ed è molto più meravigliosa di quanto la tua mente possa comprendere. Come puoi avere questa pace celeste? Puoi ottenerla prendendoti del tempo per pregare su tutto, aprendo il tuo cuore a Dio, chiedendo il suo aiuto e poi, con fede, ringraziandolo per la pace. Dopo aver pregato, eleva il tuo cuore in canti e lodi, confidando in Lui per aver risposto alla tua preghiera.

Quando abbiamo paura, aiutaci a ricordarcene.
Ti chiedo aiuto per sostituire la paura con la pace.
