Giosuè aprì la porta e poi la chiuse SBATTENDOLA nella faccia di Matteo!
Ora questo non era PER NIENTE quello che Matteo si aspettava.
Giosuè avrebbe ALMENO potuto chiamarlo al telefono per dirgli di non venire.
In primo luogo lui avrebbe potuto, così, stare a casa ed evitare questo tipo di problemi.Sei stato mai veramente irritato perché ti aspettavi qualcosa…
…ma ti è stato SBATTUTO in faccia qualcos'altro?
“Vai ed immergiti nel Fiume Giordano per sette volte,” aveva detto il servo di Eliseo a Naaman, “e la tua pelle sarà pura e tu sarai guarito dalla tua lebbra.”
Tutto stava andando così bene per Naaman, il comandante dell'armata siriana, fino al giorno in cui aveva scoperto di essere lebbroso e prossimo alla MORTE!
La giovane ragazza che serviva la moglie di Naaman le aveva parlato del profeta Eliseo e Naaman aveva percorso TUTTA la strada da Damasco per essere guarito dalla sua lebbra. E adesso Eliseo non si era neanche degnato di uscire dalla sua casa per riceverlo.
“Guarda! Lo hai sentito?” chiese Naaman al suo servo. “Pensavo che sicuramente il minimo che lui avesse potuto fare era uscire e parlare con me faccia a faccia! M’immaginavo che avrebbe invocato il nome del Signore suo Dio, teso la sua mano verso la mia lebbra sul mio corpo, e mi avrebbe guarito!
“Non sono i fiumi là a Damasco migliori di tutti i fiumi melmosi qui in Israele? Se sono i fiumi quello di cui ho bisogno, perché non posso semplicemente tornare a casa, lavarmi nei PROPRI fiumi ed essere puro?”
La Bibbia dice, “Lui si girò e IN FRETTA se ne andò.”
Ma i servitori di Naaman non avrebbero permesso che lui semplicemente si voltasse e ritornasse a casa dopo aver percorso TUTTA questa distanza! Si riunirono intorno a lui e rispettosamente lo supplicarono: “Se il profeta ti avesse detto di fare qualche cosa di grande, non lo avresti fatto? Quanto più dovresti ascoltare ora queste parole e semplicemente andare a lavarti per essere guarito?”
Allora Naaman scese nel fangoso fiume Giordano e iniziò a immergersi nelle sue acque, così come gli aveva detto il profeto.
UNO…DUE…TRE…
Non stava succedendo niente.
“Non fermarti adesso!” gridarono i suoi servi.
…QUATTRO…CINQUE…SEI…
“Ancora nessun cambiamento,”gridò ai servi che stavano sulla riva.
“Il profeta ha detto SETTE volte,” risposero loro.
Farfugliando a se stesso “Vedi! Questa cosa NON funzionerà. Neanche una macchia di lebbra ha COMINCIATO a sparire,” Naaman si immerse nel fangoso fiume Giordano per l’ultima volta.
…SETTE!
Quando risalì per prendere aria, la sua pelle cambiò proprio davanti ai suoi occhi, in pelle che sembrava quella di un piccolo bambino sano, e lo era —
GUARITO!
Che emozione! Era stato guarito dalla lebbra che lo aveva afflitto fino a quel momento. Alla fine, non sarebbe più morto!
Naaman non riusciva ad aspettare di farlo vedere al profeta Eliseo, così insieme a tutti quelli che viaggiavano con lui ritornò alla casa del profeta.
Questa volta, Naaman incontrò Eliseo faccia a faccia. “Guardami!” disse al profeta. “Alla fine, ora SO che il dio d’Israele è…
…L'UNICO DIO su TUTTA la terra!
“Adesso ti prego di accettare questi doni da me” lui disse al profeta Eliseo.
Ma Eliseo replicò, “Com’è vero che il Signore, davanti al quale io sto, vive io non ne prenderò neanche uno.”
Naaman insistette affinché li prendesse, ma lui rifiutò risolutamente.
“Bene” disse Naaman, “tutto a posto. Da ora in poi io non offrirò mai più alcun incenso a nessun altro dio fuorché il Signore.”
“Vai in pace” disse Elia. Così Naaman salì sul suo carro e iniziò il suo viaggio di ritorno a casa.
Gehazi, servo di Elia, osservava il carro che partiva e disse a se stesso, “Il mio signore non avrebbe dovuto permetter a questo tizio di andare via senza accettare i regali che aveva portato.” Decise lì per lì di corrergli dietro per prendere qualcosa visto che in ogni caso li aveva offerti lui.
Così Gehazi lo raggiunse e quando Naaman lo vide correre dietro a lui, scese dal carro per incontrarlo.
“E’ tutto a posto?” chies.
“Si. Tutto bene” disse. “Il mio signore mi ha mandato per dirti che due giovani profeti sono appena arrivati a casa nostra. Lui vuole sapere se potresti per favore dar loro un po’ di argento e due cambi di vestiti.”
“Qui, Prendi questo argento e un po’ di più” insistette Naaman. Si piegò nel carro per prendere due contenitori, mise il denaro dentro e li richiuse. Poi uscì fuori dal carro due costosi vestimenti e fece portare i regali a due dei suoi propri servi verso la casa di Gehazi perché era troppo da trasportare da solo.
Quando Gehazi arrivò sulla collina, prese i regali dai servi e li nascose a casa. Poi fece ripartire gli uomini e loro andarono via.
Successivamente, andò dal suo signore e stava davanti a lui. Elia chiese: “Dove sei stato, Gehazi?”
“Non sono stato in NESSUNA parte,” rispose lui.
Ma Elia sapeva. “Non capisci che io ero là in spirito quando Naaman scese dal suo carro per incontrarti? E' questo il tempo per prendere soldi, o accettare vestiti, oliveti e vigne, e pecore e buoi e servi? Poiché hai commesso questo la lebbra di Naaman si attaccherà a te e ai tuoi figli e ai figli dei tuoi figli PER SEMPRE.”
E Gehazi uscì dalla stanza con la pelle bianca come neve dalla lebbra.
PENSA!
1. Come si aspettava Naaman la guarigione da parte di Elia?
2. Pensi che Naaman sarebbe guarito se invece si fosse immerso nel fiume di Damasco?
3. Cosa fece Gehazi quando sentì che Elia aveva rifiutato i regali di Naaman?
4. Cosa accadde a Gehazi?
RICORDA
Il peccato è peggio della lebbra e solo il sangue di Gesù più lavarci e purificarci dai nostri peccati.
