Terry en Jerry het ongeduldig by die venster gewag met hulle neuse plat teen die vensterruit vasgedruk. Hulle nefies kon enige oomblik opdaag.
Hulle het noukeurig hulle kamers skoongemaak en seker gemaak om al die stof uit die hoeke uit te kry. Die beddens is opgemaak met skoon lakens. Hulle het selfs ‘n bossie blomme uit die tuin gepluk en in ‘n vaas op die bedkassie gesit. Alles was gereed vir hulle spesiale gaste.
Hulle het die kar in die oprit hoor opry en het hulleself buitekant toe gehaas om hulle nefies, wat geskarrel het om by die agterdeur uit te kom, te groet. Met glimlagte en giggels het hulle gewillig gehelp om die tasse binnetoe te dra en vir hulle nefies te wys waar hulle sou bly. Hulle gaan groot PRET hê hierdie week!
Jesus het baie tyd spandeer om van een dorp na ‘n ander te loop en mense te leer oor die liefde van God en hoe hulle mekaar moes behandel. Sommige mense het nie gehou van wat Jesus gesê het nie en daarom het hulle Hom en sy leerstellinge verwerp. Ander mense het Jesus baie liefgehad en Hom van plek tot plek gevolg en baie aandagtig na ELKE woord geluister.
Toe Martha hoor dat Jesus deur die dorp van Betánië sou gaan, was sy GEVUL met opgewondenheid! Sy het Jesus SO baie liefgehad en het gehoop dat sy ‘n bietjie tyd saam met Hom sou kon deurbring. Sy het haar beste klere aangetrek en by die huis uit en in die straat af gehardloop om Jesus tegemoet te gaan.
“Asseblief, ASSEBLIEF kom na ons huis toe!” het sy gepleit. “Ek weet na so ‘n lang dag moet U moeg en honger wees. Ek sal met LIEFDE vir U ‘n heerlike ete voorberei. Sal U nie ASSEBLIEF kom nie?”
Martha se volharding het vrugte afgewerp. Jesus het ingestem om na Martha se huis te gaan vir ete. Martha was BUITE haarself van blydskap. Sy het omgedraai en teruggehardloop na die huis om voor te berei vir haar Spesiale Gas.
“Maria, MARIA!” het sy uitgeroep. “Raai Wie kom na ons huis toe vandag!”
Toe Maria, wat Martha se suster was, ontdek dat JESUS op pad was, was sy NET so opgewonde soos Martha. Sy het gou begin om die huis netjies te maak en dit betaamlik te kry vir hulle Spesiale Gas.
Martha het begin om ‘n bietjie angstig te wees. “Daar is net SOVEEL dinge om te DOEN. Hoe sal ek dit OOIT regkry om alles GEDOEN te kry voor Jesus opdaag?” het sy gedink. Sy het besig geraak met al die klein dingetjies wat gedoen moes word, soos om die kamer af te stof en mooi te maak. Toe het sy in die kombuis ingegaan en ‘n spesiale ete voorberei.
“Laat ons sien . . . meel . . . suiker . . . vye is in seisoen . . .,” sy het hardop gedink. “Ek kan heerlike vyetert maak vir nagereg.”
Terwyl sy besig was om in die kombuis te werk, het sy stemme buitekant gehoor. “Dit moet JESUS wees!” het sy opgewonde gesê. “Ek MOET Hom gaan verwelkom.”
Sy het ‘n kort breuk geneem van haar kombuispligte om Jesus te groet en Hom in hulle huis te verwelkom. Toe het sy teruggegaan om die ete klaar te maak.
Die tafel was gedek op die beste linne. Al die kos was perfek op die borde gerangskik. Martha was SO besig om te werk, dat sy nie tyd gehad het om met Jesus te kuier nie. Sy het besef dat sy AL die werk gedoen het en dat haar suster Maria in die ander kamer besig was om na Jesus te luister en NIKS gedoen het om haar te help nie.
Terwyl Martha voortgegaan het om die perfekte maaltyd voor te berei, het sy kwater en KWATER vir Maria geword. “Dit is nie REGVERDIG dat sy haarself daar geniet om met Jesus te gesels en ek HIER besig is om myself in ‘n histerie in te werk nie,” het sy gedink. “Ek het GENOEG gehad! Ek gaan daar ingaan in iets hieromtrent DOEN!”
Sy het ‘n valse glimlag op haar gesig gesit en die ander kamer binnegegaan. “Jesus, kan jy asseblief vir Maria vra om my in die kombuis te kom help? Ek het sekerlik hulp daar nodig,” het sy so vriendelik gesê as wat sy kon.
Jesus het na haar gedraai met ‘n treurige kyk en liefdevol haar naam genoem. “Martha, Martha. Jy is so besig om te probeer om alles presies reg te kry. Jy doen TE veel moeite. Jy is te BESORGD.”
“Kyk na Maria wat rustig hier sit en my geselskap geniet. Sy het die beter deel gekies en Ek sal haar nie dwing om My te verlaat nie.”
Martha het stil teruggegaan na die kombuis en haar take so vinnig as moontlik afgehandel, sodat die ete bedien kon word en sy ook tyd saam met haar vriend Jesus kon deurbring.
ONTHOU: Neem elke dag tyd om Jesus lief te hê en na Sy woorde te luister.

“Jesus antwoord en sê vir hom: As iemand my liefhet, sal hy my woord bewaar, en my Vader sal hom liefhê, en Ons sal na hom toe kom en by hom woning maak” (Johannes 14:23).
PRAKTIESE TOEPASSING
Het jy vriende by wie jy graag gereeld gaan kuier? Hoekom hou jy daarvan om by hulle te kuier? Wat sou jy dink as jy by vriende gaan kuier wat hulleself in ’n ander kamer besig hou terwyl jy wag om met hulle te speel? Dink jy dit sou onbeskof wees? Hoe sou dit jou laat voel?
Wat sou jy doen as Jesus by jou kom kuier? Sou jy nalaat om met Hom te praat en ander dinge gaan doen soos Marta, of sou jy soos Maria by sy voete sit en luister na wat Hy te sê het?
[Na bespreking:] Jesus het gesê Hy staan by die deur van jou hart en klop. As jy die deur oopmaak, sal Hy inkom en saam met jou maaltyd hou. Hy vra jou nie om vir Hom kos voor te berei nie. Hy wil hê jy moet van Hom eet. Onthou, Hy is die Brood van die hemel en die Woord van God. Wat Hy bedoel, is dat Hy wil hê jy moet elke dag sy Woord lees en met Hom daaroor praat. Hy wil ook hê jy moet met Hom praat oor wat in jou gedagtes en in jou hart is, en wat in jou lewe aangaan. Hy wil hê jy moet geloof hê dat Hy jou hoor en in jou behoeftes sal voorsien soos Hy goeddink. Wil jy Hom graag nou in jou hart innooi en met Hom gesels?
