Jesus Was Sy Dissipels se Voete

“Ek het jou nou al ver genoeg gestoot, dit is nou eers mý beurt!” kla Quintin teenoor sy ouer broer wat in die kaskar sit en die stuurwiel draai dat dit sulke wye draaie in die agterplaas maak.
“Nog net 'n klein entjie, Quintin! Ek is ouer en verdien om verder gestoot word!” het Terrence geantwoord.
“Ma, Mamma, Ma-a-a-a!” het Quintin geskree. Hulle Ma het bekommerd by die venster uitgekyk om te sien waaroor die bohaai gaan. “Ma, Terrence wil my nie 'n beurt op die kaskar gee nie! Dit is nie reg nie, want ek moet hóm die heeltyd stoot!”
Daar was groot opwinding in Jerusalem oor die fees van die Pasga en die stowwerige strate het gewemel van mense wat van heinde en verre gekom het vir die fees. Jesus en Sy dissipels was ook daar. Na 'n lang dag, het hulle die aand moeg en honger aan tafel in die bovertrek neergesak.
Jesus het geweet Hy sou binnekort gekruisig word, maar Hy was vasbeslote om Sy hemelse Vader se wil te doen. Sy hemelse Vader het die hele mensdom se saligheid aan Jesus toevertrou, want Jesus het Sy mense baie liefgehad. Hy het hulle so liefgehad dat Hy sy lewe vir hulle sou gee.
Hulle gasheer het 'n kom met water en 'n handdoek daar neergesit vir die groepie moeë mans, sodat hulle hul vuil voete kon was nadat hulle hul sandale uitgetrek het. Daar was egter geen dienskneg, soos die gebruik was, om hulle voete vir hulle te was nie.
Terwyl hulle aan die etenstafel gesit het, het Jesus opgestaan en Sy bokleed uitgetrek, 'n handdoek geneem en om Hom vasgemaak, net soos wat diensknegte in daardie tyd gedoen het.
“Wat maak die Meester nou?” het die dissipels stilswyend gewonder, “Hy doen nooit iets sonder rede nie.”
Jesus het by elke dissipel neergekniel en soos 'n dienskneg hulle voete begin was en dit daarna met die handdoek om Sy lyf afgedroog. Sommige dissipels het trane in hulle oë gekry, ander was stomgeslaan. Toe dit Judas se beurt was, het 'n traan oor Jesus se wang gerol, want Hy het geweet Judas sou Hom verraai. Nogtans het Hy sy voete ook gewas.
Toe Jesus by Petrus kom om sy voete te was, kon Petrus homself nie meer beteuel nie. “Hoe kon die Meester Homself so verneder om 'n dienskneg se werk te doen?” het hy gewonder. “Here!” het hy gevra, “Gaan Ú MÝ voete was?”
Jesus het geantwoord, “Wat ek doen, verstaan jy nou nie, maar hierna sal jy verstaan.”
Petrus wou nie toelaat dat Jesus Homself so voor hom wat Petrus is, 'n nietige visserman, verneder nie en het vir Hom gesê, “U sal in alle ewigheid nooit MÝ voete was nie!”
Jesus het geantwoord, “As Ek jou nie was nie, het jy geen deel aan My nie.”
Petrus het geskrik, want hy wou só graag deel hê aan Jesus. Hy het vinnig geantwoord, “Here, nie net my voete nie, maar ook my hande en my hoof!”
Jesus het geweet dat Petrus 'n goeie hart gehad het en het hom geantwoord, “Hy wat klaar gebad het, hoef niks anders as net sy voete te was om heeltemal rein te wees nie, en julle is rein, maar nie almal van julle nie.”
Hy het gesê nie almal was rein nie, omdat Judas se hart nie rein was nie. Jesus het geweet Judas het reeds met die Fariseërs gekonkel om Hom te verraai.
Toe Jesus klaar was, het Hy weer sy boklere aangetrek, by die tafel gaan sit en vir hulle gevra, “Verstaan julle wat Ek aan julle gedoen het? Julle noem My Meester en Here, en julle is reg, want Ek is dit. As Ek dan, die Here en die Meester is en julle voete gewas het, moet julle ook net so mekaar se voete was. Ek het vir julle 'n voorbeeld gegee om na te volg, sodat julle aan mekaar moet doen soos wat Ek aan julle gedoen het. Al het Ek julle voete gewas, is julle nie belangriker as Ek nie. Nou dat julle weet hoe om My voorbeeld te volg, sal God julle seën as julle mekaar in liefde dien.”
ONTHOU:
Dit maak nie saak hoe belangrik jy dink jy is nie. Jy is nooit té belangrik om iets goed vir iemand anders te doen nie.
DINK
1. Het Terrence reg opgetree? Hoekom of hoekom nie?
2. Het Quintin reg opgetree? Hoekom of hoekom nie?
3. Wat dink jy het hulle ma vir hulle gesê?
4. Hoe kan Quintin en Terrence Jesus se voorbeeld volg in hierdie storie?
'N VERS OM TE LEER
“Maar die vrug van die Gees is liefde, blydskap, vrede,
lankmoedigheid, vriendelikheid, goedheid,
getrouheid, sagmoedigheid, selfbeheersing”
(Galasiërs 5:22-23).
'ALTERNATIEWE VERSE OM TE LEER
“Salig is die sagmoediges, want hulle sal die
aarde beërwe” (Matthéüs 5:5).
“Neem my juk op julle en leer van My,
want Ek is sagmoedig en nederig van hart,
en julle sal rus vind vir julle siele”
(Matthéüs 11:29).
“Wees eensgesind onder mekaar; moenie na hoë
dinge streef nie, maar voeg julle by die
nederige; moenie eiewys wees nie”
(Romeine 12:16).
“Verneder julle voor die Here, en Hy sal
julle verhoog” (Jakobus 4:10).
PRAKTIESE TOEPASSING
Kan jy 'n paar take noem wat jy voel nie jou tyd werd is nie en jy wens jy kan iemand anders betaal om dit te doen? Wat van die skoonmaak van jou kamer, die speelkamer of die badkamer? Of wat van die vullis uitneem of agter jou troeteldier opruim? Hierdie takies lyk nie baie glansryk nie, of hoe? Maar dink jy dit is belangrik? Hoekom?
Eendag, op pad na iemand se huis, het Jesus se dissipels oor en weer gestry en probeer dink wie van hulle die belangrikste is. Toe Hy by die huis ingegaan het, het Jesus geweet waaroor hulle gestry het, en Hy het die dissipels gevra om saam met Hom te gaan sit. Hy het gesê dat as iemand eerste wil wees, moet hy laaste wees en almal dien. Toe reik Hy af en tel 'n klein kindjie in sy arms op. Met alle oë op die kind gerig, het Jesus gesê: “Elkeen wat een van sulke kindertjies ontvang in my Naam, ontvang My. En elkeen wat My ontvang, ontvang Hom wat My gestuur het.”
Jesus het hulle die beste les van almal geleer toe Hy as 'n dienskneg neergekniel en sy dissipels se voete gewas het. Net soos kinders die geringe take in Jesus se tyd verrig het, was Jesus bereid om Homself as 'n dienaar teenoor sy dissipels te verneder. Hy het Homself nog verder verneder deur gekruisig te word en vir ons sondes te sterf sodat ons gered kan word.
So, wat van jou? Is jy bereid om nederige take te doen met 'n blye hart en die wete dat jy dit vir Jesus doen? Jy kan selfs verder gaan deur 'n oomblik te stop by iemand wat 'n nederige werk verrig en hulle te bemoedig. Byvoorbeeld, volgende keer as jy verby 'n skoonmaker stap wat vloere vee, bemoedig hom of haar deur haar te bedank vir die belangrike werk wat sy of sy in die oë van die Here doen.
